Mind + Body + life transformation
Fat distribution in the body differs from person to person. Some people have excess fat deposition on their thighs, while others have a larger belly. The fat deposition in different areas makes the body look uneven, making people wish they could reduce fat from their trouble areas alone to make the body look more proportionate.
Almost everyone has trouble spots they would like to change, and the stomach is the most common of all. But is it possible to lose only belly fat without losing overall weight?
First of all, the process of targeting a specific area is called spot reduction. Studies suggest that in most of the cases, spot reduction is not possible.
Focusing on a particular part of the body won’t slim it down, but it is possible to lose fat when you exercise. The same is true for the stomach. Some fat deposits in our body are more metabolically active than others and are more responsive to exercise interventions. Belly fat is one of the most metabolically active fats.
When we exercise, our body releases hormones, which leads to loss of metabolically active fat. The more you exercise and the higher the intensity, the more hormones you will release and eventually, the loss of fat will be higher. The fat stored in the gut, arms, and chest is metabolically active and following a proper exercise and diet routine can be quite helpful.
On the other hand, fat deposition in the hips, butt and thighs are not metabolically active and are quite hard to reduce.
Spot-targeting fat isn’t very effective, in most cases. But if you’re trying to lose fat around your stomach. The right combination of resistance training, high-intensity interval aerobic exercise, and a healthy meal-plan can help to cut down belly fat.
